Teaching and Learning
What We Do
The main services that the Teaching and Learning Center offers are faculty training and professional development, faculty coaching and mentoring, course design guideline reviews, and digital accessibility guidance.
Faculty Training and Professional Development
The TLC has over 45 different workshop and/or course opportunities in a variety of course delivery modalities, such as face-to-face synchronous, hybrid synchronous and online asynchronous, and online asynchronous. Each workshop and/or course is approved by the Office of Public Instruction (OPI) and the GFC MSU Tenure and Promotion Committee. Two of the courses available to faculty are also eligible for Graduate credit from MSU-Northern. We are continually adding to our catalog of offerings.
Faculty Coaching and Mentoring
The TLC partners with faculty members to improve teaching and learning practices. Faculty can invite a member of the TLC staff to observe their face-to-face or online class and work in a partnership to improve their teaching craft.
Course Design Guideline Reviews
The Instructional Designer staffed within the TLC performs a D2L Brightspace Online Course Design Guideline review during a faculty member’s evaluation period. Recommendations are provided to the faculty member and the formal evaluator to improve the online course.
Digital Accessibility Guidance
The Instructional Designer staffed within the TLC assists faculty with correcting any digital accessibility issues and proactively verifies accessibility compliance upon request by the faculty member.
