What is a Dental Assistant?

Dental Assistants are vital members of the dental health care team who help to increase the efficiency and productivity of the dental practice by assisting the dentist in delivering patient care, performing allowable functions, and helping in the dental business office. GFC dental assistant program graduates possess knowledge and a deeper understanding of clinical skills needed in general and specialty dental practices, along with awareness of the legal, ethical, and professional standards of the profession. In addition, program graduates are eligible to take the Dental Assisting National Board exam to become a DANB certified dental assistant, or CDA. Because dentists employ two or three dental assistants, employment opportunities are excellent.
